The Wedding Date(s)
It's hard to believe I've been in Brazil for two months now and still don't have an exact wedding date. The bureaucracy here is truly astonishing. On December 5th, we will have completed our 45-day waiting period and can then set a date (assuming the marriage is approved). Since marriages can only be performed on Wednesdays and Fridays, we're shooting for Dec. 7th, but we don't know if we can get that day at the last minute. Therefore Dec. 12 and Dec. 14 are our backup dates. If anyone wishes to attend, just hop a plane to Belo Horizonte, Brazil and stay from at least as early as Dec. 7th to at least the 14th, and you can see the wedding.
Any readers of this blog are welcome to attend, but I would especially like to invite the following from my blogroll:
- Bakerina: She could bring Lloyd, and it would be a pleasure to take them around and expose them to the unique cuisine of Brazil. Also, Bakerina could bake us a fabulous wedding cake.
- Bill Stevenson: He will freak out when he sees that the iPod Shuffle goes for nearly $200 in Brazil.
- Jenny and Geoff: They're already in the southern hemisphere, so it would be a quick and easy trip for them.
- Michael Moore: (No, not the Michael Moore.) He could bring the whole family, and the trip would give him and his daughter something to blog about. Apparently nothing blogworthy has happened in their lives since July.
- 'mouse: He's a lawyer. My fiancée is a lawyer. They can talk about lawyering stuff.
- orionoir: I'd love to see the pictures he'd take around here. (But I shudder to think of the adventures he'd wind up having in Brazil!)
- Snow: She really really needs a vacation!
- Teka: She already speaks Portuguese. This would be a great opportunity for her to show James around Brazil.
- Will: He's never been abroad and needs to see the world. Plus we could put together at least a few truly awesome podcast episodes, perhaps even reviving The Dynamite Coalition.
Anyone on the above list is welcome and would have a place to stay if they came. (That is unless they all end up coming, in which case I am screwed.)

One: Congratulations, of course.
Two: Why on earth can weddings only be performed on Wednesdays and Fridays? Honestly, there is a part of me that thinks that's hilarious and loves it and would even restrict it to Tuesdays before 3 in the afternoon unless both the bride and groom or groom and groom or bride and bride or whoever is getting married, really, really cry and make some kind of delicious turnovers or sweet puff pastry sort of things for the officiant and then maybe at 3:10 you can get married but then only if you take your vows in Navaho--Ok, I'd think that was neat as hell, but I can't believe that one of the biggest countries in the world stands for having to get married on Wed. and Fri. Amazing.
Still, awesome to hear you're doing well.
Best,

Owen, thank you. Actually, the reason for the day restrictions has to do with the fact that we're having a civil ceremony rather than a religious one in a church. I guess I neglected to say that in my entry. As far as I know, people here can get married religiously any day they like, although the Catholic church probably has a lot of other ridiculous restrictions. Good to hear from you.

Oh wow, I'm so touched! Sorry I couldn't make it, but I hope you had/have/will have had a marvelous wedding. Tudo de bom and all the best for you and your bride.
Feliz 2008! Meus votos de saúde, prosperidade e muito felicidade pelo ano que vem e muito mais.
Beijos.

Oh, and James and I DID get legally married in a civil ceremony on September 21, 2007, in front of close friends and my mother. The next day was my fortieth birthday.
We are very happy, and hope that you are too.

Teka, thank you. I'm happy to hear that you and James got married. I'm guessing that a civil ceremony in the States is probably quite different from civil ceremonies here. (It's probably quieter and less crowded there.) Sorry it took me so long to respond. I was in Guarapari for a week with very limited internet access. I'm glad to see your blog is back up. It's strange that LiveJournal has a problem with your content.

Jenny & Geoff, cool. And in 2033 you'll be celebrating your 50th anniversary while Simone and I will just be coming off our 25th.

Hi Jenny,
I will get back to blogging eventually. Right now podcasting is taking up all my spare time. If you want news from me, you can always listen to the Brazilianisms Podcast.

TV, Congratulations. I hope all is well. I might try to go to South America someday in the not-too-distant future (measured in years) and if I end up anywhere near you I'll get in touch.
Do blog-update if you get a chance. I'm not up to date on all this fancy technology stuff.

Hi 'mouse,
I will eventually get back to blogging. I've always felt a bit guilty for being so adamant that you start a blog, and when you finally did, I barely ever visited it.
As for hearing the podcast, if your computer has speakers, all you've got to do is go to the Brazilianisms site and click on the play button in one of the episode players. That's all you need to do.
If you ever make it to Brazil, you've definitely got a place to stay in Belo Horizonte.

I totally missed out here. My most sincere congratulations. It appears that love is being good to both of us lately.
