This picture was taken in 2001 at the Dungeness Spit in Washington state. It is the largest natural sand spit in the US and is still growing. Pictured in the photo are Shu (I've forgotten his last name.) and Casey Robin Russell, both of whom reside in Seattle.
This was taken in 1999 in a desert in Namibia. In southern Africa it is possible to buy soft drinks in specially-made large-sized cans. I thought it was cool that they were called "africans". That is of course a play on such South African words as "afrikaans" and "afrikaner". The -can ending is pronounced with a long vowel sound (rhymes with "gone").
