Interesting vidcast. When I was at college I was given some durian to try. If jaca smells even remotely as unpleasant, I salute your on-screen bravery and stoicism!

Zebulon,

Thank you so much for commenting on the video. After I posted it, not only did it get no comments, but feedback actually came to a standstill for a few days. I was afraid the jackfruit had scared away the listeners.

I've never tried durian fruit. Jackfruit definitely smells a bit odd, but not necessarily unpleasant. Smaller fruits tend to have stronger tastes and aromas, so I bet durian fruit is like concentrated jackfruit.

That was probably the strangest thing I've seen in months. That fruit was HUGE! What does it taste like, if you could compare to something someone in the USA might have had before? Kiwi? Peach?

I had a fruit when I went to Jamaica when I was a young teen that, I am not sure how it is spelled, but it was pronounced "knip". It had a popping outter shell/skin (kiwi like but thicker) and a big nut in the middle surrounded by slimy, tasty green mush. It was one of the most wonderful flavors I've ever had...I want to go back to Jamaica just for another handful of knips!

Anyway, cool video. Keep up the good work. I'm going to subscribe to your show.

Hey Corby,

Thanks for stopping by. It's so cool that you're going to subscribe. I've listened to every episode of the Twisted Pickle, starting way back when Nate and Di first mentioned it on their show.

It's really hard to explain the taste of Jaca. It has a mild sweet flavor with a soft and extremely sticky texture. The closest comparison I can come up with is bubblegum-flavored banana, if you can imagine such a thing.

Corby

That sounds awesome. I'd love to try that.

Kinsey

lol. Then I'm probably making it sound better than it is. I think many Asian food markets in the US carry canned jackfruit, so you could probably get it in Omaha.
