We talk about some news stories and ideas for future show topics. Then we go off on a tangent and discuss Milton's crappy computer. This is a longer-than-usual episode, and for some reason the audio gets a bit crackly after 43 minutes. Sorry about that.

I think I have to post this episode in two or parts again:
1. Thank you for another episode, this was really fast by the way. I feel like a jewish boy at Hanukkah but with fat better gifts. :)
I like when you share useful information regarding traveling to and in Brazil. I found the airport luggage tips very useful but I want to add that the best way to check someones luggage is with the owner of the luggage present. I was in Turkey some years ago and they checked my suitcase when I was present. And when I was at the airport in Bruxelles they made me open the suitcase. It was a great idea rather than tear apart my suitcase.
When you talked about the birthrate in Brazil I was more interested in the fast changes that happen in Brazil. I noticed this changes also. This is why I am so drawn to go there, in my country everything is so monotonous, this is the reason I want to change the place I live. And after I discovered Brazil and the brazilian life, full of energy and so diverse, I decided that it is the best place to live.
I saw a few days ago the article of that 121 year old woman and I wouldn't give her this age. There is something in the brazilian way of life that makes them look so young so much time and to live so long and be sure that I want some part of that also.

2. When you were talking about cakes, cupcakes and all that stufff I still wonder why certain things are so expensive there. I found the prices for the products you talk on the podcast and the ones I find on the internet, as being overly expensive for no apparent reason. Maybe you could talk more about what is expensive in Brazil for the people that are thinking of moving there. You could talk about housing, food, bills, computers peripherals and accesories and anything that can affect someone that wants to make a decent living there.
I believe that Kinsey was right about the chocolate cake. If the cake wasn't made at home and the ingrediets were from boxes or bags this could have made the cake to taste awful. I like homemade cakes and in Romania only people under 35 go to a supermarket and buy an already made cake. The new generations are becoming more and more lazy when it comes to cooking unfortunatelly.
A few years ago I wanted to try to eat a sponge cake from a supermarket. It came in it's fancy box from the factory and when had a bite the taste was incredibly awful and I threw it to garbage right then and there. So factory made food products are not worth the money.
Doing a video about a day in the life of Milton is such a great idea and I am glad that he likes it too. But do not edit it on Miton's conputer because it can take a long long time. And this brings me to the subject of Milton's computer. I understand im, computers in Brazil are very high compared to other countries so he should buy one that he can afford and keep it working and functional as long as he can.
I like that you put pictures of Milton, or you can put pictures of yourself Kinsey, I do not care, at least is not some random thing unrelated in any way to the episode.
A wonderful episode once again full of information and entertainment. Take care!

Regarding your cup cake comment. I totally agree with you. I think in Brasil we are so used to buying (and paying a lot for it) "porcaria" that we no longer can tell the difference. This is true for so much stuff (cars, restaurants, cloths, etc), you would probably have enough material for a Porcaria episode parts II, III, and IV ,it could become a franchise episode, lol.

Nice comment Rafael! I was thinking about the same thing, but you said it better and also added a title to it: Porcaria. :D I said this in my comment: "I found the prices for the products you talk on the podcast and the ones I find on the internet, as being overly expensive for no apparent reason. Maybe you could talk more about what is expensive in Brazil for the people that are thinking of moving there."

Thanks Mike, are you already leaving in Brasil? You seem pretty familiar with it, so I am guessing you are.
But let me know if you need help with anything.

Hi Rafael,
Yes, people here really seem to be desensitized to crap. A couple years ago I brought an iPod Nano to Brazil to sell. No one wanted to buy it. They didn't see the point, since they could buy a fake one for much cheaper that supposedly did all the same things. These are the same people who constantly complain that every time they buy an electronic item, it stops working after a couple of weeks.

New episode, Son of Porcaria
Cake and cake mixes
Corn-on-the-cob
(Do KFCs in Brazil have those short cobs?)
Anything else?

The list is endless. Toilet paper and cheddar cheese would certainly be up there.

The other day I had some "nachos" here in Rio, which had "cheddar cheese". Your Porcaria episode was the first thing that to mind.

Hi Rafael, thank you for the response! I want to be able to go to Brazil until the end of this year but unfortunately I didn't found a job yet.
I do search about anything Brazil related, not only because I am preparing to go there but also because I love your country and I am interested in knowing more about your life and culture!
Some help is always appreciated, thank you! I will give you my e-mail address and we could talk there if you want. The address is: [email protected]
Take care!

I've had that too. If only they'd stop trying (and failing) to be fancy and just use queijo minas, the nachos would actually be quite good.

^ Uh, what?
Hey, I'm always impressed when Milton remembers stuff that Kinsey does not. Whether it's the BRICS nations or the long schedule at that teacher meeting.
I'm eager to see the Day with Milton video!
Lastly, did you guys catch the Simpsons episode where they visited Brazil? I'm interested to hear your take on it, with all its half-assed research/stereotypes/poor accents.
Posted by: cellski fulano | February 17, 2012 at 05:07 PM
Hi Cellski,
Well, it wasn't so much memorizing a long schedule as much as the fact that he had it all written down and just didn't want to send it to me in an email.
I haven't yet seen the Simpsons episode in Brazil, but I've heard a bit about it. I'm actually looking forward to checking it out. They did a good job in the Australia episode as well as the one where Bart was an exchange student in France.
