Remember the post about My Composter on Star Trek and the followup entitled Another Composter Siting on Star Trek? I have no further information on the set designers' use of the Bio-Orb composter in sci-fi programs, but I was recently watching the Deep Space Nine season 1 bonus disk, which contained a segment on Quark's bar detailing how certain props are obtained.
Apparently they have someone on staff whose job title is "Star Trek Shopper". She goes out to flea markets and discount stores to look for appropriate items. (Now that is a job I would kill for!) All the fancy bottles in the bar were obtained this way. The square glasses in which Quark serves drinks are actually candle holders which have large openings on the bottom. This enables them to be turned upside down and used as drinking glasses. There are also two special containers used to hold Klingon catsup and mustard.
