I'm still settling in and getting re-accustomed to dorm life. It's hard going from a four-bedroom house to living in a little room smaller than my kitchen. Sharing a bathroom with a bunch of people I don't even know is also kind of strange. Oh well. I survived dorm life once, so I guess I can do it again. It is nice not to have to worry about such things as paying utilities and cooking and cleaning.
What really annoys me is that since I'm a grad student, I didn't get to go through the orientation offered to new students. A few things were explained te me at the beginning, such as where my mailbox was located and in what building I would be able to eat. Other than that, I have had to rely on detective work. So far I've figured out where to park and how to pay for it, where to pay my tuition, and where to buy books. But there are some other basic things that I really feel should have been explained to me and which I have yet to figure out.
For example, what do I do with my trash? There is a sign by the front door saying not to leave it there or else, but there is no information on where to throw it. Presumably there is a dumpster around somewhere. And where do I go to get new trash bags?
Also, who is the floor director here? What is his name? What room is he in? My floor is nice and quiet -- too quiet. I have yet to meet any of my floormates, yet I've been here for five days. It would be nice to at least know the rules.
