My Grandparents 2

A couple of years ago just before I headed off to Eugene, Oregon for the first time, I published this entry with an old photo of my grandparents in Eugene. They met at the U of O and married while they were still undergraduates there. The only problem with that picture is that it doesn't seem possible to identify the actual location.

Today while going through old family photos, I came across another picture. I think just about anyone from Eugene will have no trouble identifying the spot. Amazingly, both the statue and the building in the background are still there and look exactly the same. Also of note, my grandmother is wearing the same outfit as in the other picture. I don't know who the other person is, but I'm pretty sure it's not my grandfather (unless there's something about him I don't know).

Spring is Here!

I still can't get over the mild winters here in Eugene. Today was t-shirt weather, and even in a t-shirt, I was still hot. So far, no snow has fallen in Eugene this winter. The only downside to all this nice weather is the coming pollen, which will soon make me miserable.

Muncie, on the other hand, is a different story.

Eugene Blogger Meetup

Tonight I went to the first ever Eugene Weblogger Meetup. I've been trying to go to one of these for quite some time. I started signing up for meetings back when I was in Muncie, but none ever came to fruition. (The Meetup site automatically cancels a meeting if fewer than five people sign up, and it won't tell you how many other people signed up, let alone who they are and how to contact them.) I had no luck in Muncie, and I even tried inviting the Muncie bloggers from the CICS-HFI Weblog Project. Once in Eugene, I immediately started signing up for meetings only to see them cancelled. The closest meetups were in Portland, and I wanted to meet local bloggers.

This year a blogger by the name of Michael Moore (no silly, not that Michael Moore, even though he was just in Eugene) took the initiative and scoured the internet for Eugenian bloggers whom he personally e-mailed about the meetup. Eleven people showed up.

Unfotunately, no comprehensive list of all the bloggers in attendance has yet been published. The following is a preliminary attempt on my part to list some of the bloggers who were there. Michael promises to publish a comprehensive list on his blog very soon.

The Weather

One great thing about the Pacific Northwest is the consistency of the weather. You never have to check the weather report before going out to see if it will rain. It's always raining!

I still haven't gotten any really good Oregon photos. It's always cloudy and raining, and you wouldn't believe how busy I am with classes. In the meantime, you may be interested to check out the University of Oregon's photo site. It does a good job of showing the campus and the scenic areas in this part of the state. Every day a new photo is added.
